WASHINGTON, DC – The Independence through Adaptive Opportunities Foundation (IAOF) is proud to recognize our founder, John Patricio, for his participation in the annual Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Advocacy Week in Washington, D.C. The event brings together veterans, caregivers, advocates, and PVA chapter leaders from across the country to meet with members of Congress and their staff to advocate for policies that improve the lives of veterans living with spinal cord injuries and diseases.
As a veteran, advocate, and leader within the adaptive community, John joined fellow PVA members on Capitol Hill to ensure that the voices of veterans were heard during discussions on critical legislative priorities. Throughout the week, he met with congressional offices to discuss issues including access to quality VA healthcare, veterans’ benefits, caregiver support, accessibility, and programs that promote independence and quality of life for veterans with disabilities.
John’s participation reflects IAOF’s commitment to serving veterans beyond adaptive recreation and community programs. While the Foundation is dedicated to empowering veterans through adaptive sports, outdoor recreation, and meaningful opportunities for connection, advocacy remains a vital part of creating lasting change. Engaging with lawmakers helps ensure that veterans continue to receive the resources, services, and support they have earned through their service.

In addition to meeting with legislators, Advocacy Week provided an opportunity to collaborate with veterans and advocates from across the nation. By sharing experiences and discussing common challenges, participants strengthened a collective voice dedicated to advancing legislation that protects and enhances healthcare, accessibility, and independence for veterans.
John’s participation also reflects IAOF’s broader mission of improving the lives of veterans and individuals with disabilities through leadership, advocacy, and opportunity. Representing both the Foundation and the veteran community in Washington, D.C., he helped reinforce the importance of ensuring that those who have served our nation continue to have a voice in the policies that affect their lives.
